Preparing Your Canvas of Beauty

Your face is the canvas you show to the world. When looking at someone, our attention is usually at the face first. Try flipping through the newspaper or a magazine and you will also notice that advertisers often use the human face to catch readers’ attention.

It may sound simple but how you clean your face can make a difference to your appearance. The skin on your face is different from that the skin on the rest of your body, so washing the face with mere soap and water is not recommended. Try the advice of dermatologists to have a smooth, clean and healthy canvas on which you can design an attractive look.

1. Figure out what kind of skin you have – normal, dry or oily? Or do you have combination skin? Or sensitive skin? Once you know the skin-type, choose a skin
product that is suitable.

2. Wash your face in the morning and night, and as soon as possible after sweating
heavily. Use a cleanser that washes away dirt, germs and excess oils; preferably one that is alcohol-free. Use lukewarm or cool water as hot water will strip the skin of its natural oils. Be gentle when applying cleanser; use your fingertips.

3. Dab the face dry with a clean, soft towel.

4. Applying a toner helps remove excess oil and dead skin that remains after cleaning.

5. Use a moisturizer to hydrate your skin; use your ring finger when applying cream to the delicate area around your eyes.

6. Refrain from scrubbing your skin as this will irritate the skin. To remove dead skin,
use a gentle exfoliating product once or twice a week.

7. Have a facial on a regular basis; you can get it done at a beautician or buy a facial pack for home use. Alternatively, make your own facial mask!

Now your face-canvas is ready for you to create any look you want; be it for an important work meeting, a night out with the girls, outing with family or a black tie dinner function.
